CHANT OF GOD NAME

The name (Nama) is of the nature of absolute bliss. If there’s anything that can be considered closest to the pure, supreme Self, it is the Divine Name itself. Being of pure consciousness, the Name radiates joy, and from this overflowing bliss, the universe is created. To take countless forms, dissolve them, and create them anew — yet remain in one’s original state — what an astonishing divine play this is! Truly, what can I even say? Ever since I learned to speak, I have spoken of the Name, and even now, its greatness remains inexhaustible. If the glory of the Name could be fully described, it would diminish the very divinity of the Lord.

One who has completely dissolved his ego in the Name alone can begin to grasp its true greatness. Such a person might either fall silent, as the glory of the Name is beyond words — or speak of it until his last breath, for no matter how much is spoken or heard about it, it is never enough.

The Name wipes away all sins. In fact, forgetting God is the gravest sin of all — and the Name keeps us ever mindful of Him.

The Name is greater even than the Vedas. How? To benefit from the Vedas, one must study all four, which demands great effort, time, and eligibility. But the Name requires no such effort. Moreover, access to the Vedas is limited, while the Divine Name is open to all, regardless of status. Even the Vedas begin with ‘Om’, which is itself a form of the Name — thus, the Name precedes them.

The Name surpasses even pilgrimages. The aim of a pilgrimage is inner transformation, but it needs favorable circumstances — health, wealth, and time. The Name, however, brings about that inner change right at home. If one goes to pilgrimage and does not learn to chant the Name, the journey would be wasted. In fact, the very purpose of going there is to cultivate devotion to the Name.

The Name is the king of all virtuous actions. True virtue is that which leads us to God — while other actions may take us indirectly, the Name leads us straight to Him.

The Name cures the disease of worldly attachment. ‘Worldly attachment’ means being enslaved to sensory pleasures, which is the root of all suffering. By chanting the Name, one’s love is redirected to God, and attachments elsewhere naturally dissolve. As these attachments fade, so too does sorrow — because sorrow originates from those very attachments.

Moreover, God is the embodiment of bliss. When one firmly holds to Him through the Name, how can sorrow remain in that space?

Every human being should take the Divine Name, contemplate it, remember it constantly, and thus make their life truly meaningful.
