CHANT OF GOD NAME

Many people often ask how a person’s name relates to destiny . This is, in fact, a very significant question. Most people chant the divine name with the hope of escaping the hardships of fate. Generally, a person identifies completely with the body — if the body is happy, they feel happy; if the body suffers, they feel sorrow. But it’s important to remember: the effects of destiny are limited only to the physical body.

When one’s attachment to the body (body-consciousness) decreases, they no longer get disturbed by physical pain or pleasure. Chanting the Divine Name helps reduce this attachment. Thus, even while undergoing the trials of destiny, one who lives in the remembrance of the Name remains peaceful and content. The bliss of the Name becomes so profound that the pains of destiny lose their grip.

The power of the Divine Name is extraordinary. It can wipe away past misdeeds. It can uplift even those who have lost their way. The Name is the king among all forms of worship, prayer, and service. Through the Name, one gains closeness to the Divine — and the grace of the Lord does not take long to follow. In fact, it is said that only those upon whom the Lord’s grace has descended are able to chant the Divine Name with true feeling.

The Divine Name is the only spiritual tool that can be practiced anytime, anywhere, by anyone, in any condition. Because it is free from all conditions or requirements, the Name alone can connect us directly to the formless Divine. How many ways can I even describe this to you? Living constantly in the Divine Name — that alone is liberation. Dwelling in the Name without interruption — that is true devotion. The one who is fully immersed in the Name — that one is a saint. True love for the Name is the hallmark of such saints.

So please, listen to this carefully: never forget the Divine Name. Endure the challenges of destiny patiently, and find contentment in whatever state the Lord has placed you in — but never let go of the Name. The Name transforms sinners into the virtuous. To reduce attachment to the body — that is true virtue, and this is made possible through the Name. The Name dissolves the influence of the dark age . The tendency of the mind to be corrupted by negative desires and passions — that is the signature of Kali, and chanting the Name strikes at its very root.

Thus, the one who constantly remembers the Divine Name remains untouched by the age of Kali, and unaffected by destiny. The Name creates a purified body and mind. Wherever the Name resides, the Lord Himself is drawn there, bringing an increase in spiritual strength and virtue. One should surrender the body to fate, but see oneself as beyond the body — and find joy in whatever arises.

Rather than saying, “This is due to destiny,” say, “This is by the will of the Divine.” In doing so, your heart will find peace. Whatever you do, if done in remembrance of the Divine and with a sense of surrender to His will, you will find contentment. One who lives this way is bound to experience lasting peace.
